Project Description
This new 73,000 SF crisis center aids in filling the urgent need to address the mental health and addiction emergency Franklin County is experiencing. The Franklin County Mental Health & Addiction Crisis Center provides a welcoming and healing environment that is safe and secure for patients, visitors, and staff. The facility features a 23-hour observation unit, 16-bed inpatient unit, treatment rooms, staff and patient courtyards, recreation space, and administrative areas.
Upon hire, Elford collaborated with the Owner and Design Team to develop and implement innovative supply chain and procurement strategies to offset the effects of supply chain disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Key components of this strategy included utilization of design-assist subcontractors for structural steel, roofing, glass and glazing, drywall systems, mechanical and plumbing systems, and electrical systems.
This strategy also included securing a substantial portion the workforce in the construction market and allowed for a very aggressive pre-purchasing strategy, as well as prefabrication efforts including cold formed metal framing, HVAC, and electrical work. Key items procured early include glass and glazing components, roofing components, structural steel, prefabricated CFMF panels, all major mechanical equipment, switchgear, and a generator. Additionally, the team utilized Dusty the Robot to perform all interior layout activities directly from the BIM model, saving time and increasing accuracy.
