PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Donated to Kenyon College by an alumni, this 18,000 SF, three story building was originally constructed between 1910 and 1911. End users for the building include Kenyon College Department of Dance, Drama and Film, the local/nonprofit Science Play-Space Initiative (SPI Spot), as well as space for Kenyon College community outreach programs. The Wright Center also houses the Office for Community Partnerships at Kenyon.
The facility features state-of-the-art film production equipment in a two-story film studio, classrooms with 75-inch screens, a 30-seat screening room, a room devoted to teaching post-production editing, and a secure room to store the college’s film equipment.
The roof was replaced to allow for a two-story film studio in the center of the 18,000 SF building. Workers removed bricks and placed glass in the arches on the building’s south facade to let natural light into SPI’s reading nook, climbing structure and small theater for science demonstrations.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project was for the construction of replacement housing for more than 30 Greek chapters. All Greek chapters are housed in town home style housing with unit sizes based on chapter size and projected membership. Three sizes of town homes are currently included in the program; they range from 4 to 18 beds. A total of 412 beds will be added to the campus.
In the summer of 2014, Elford demolished 19 buildings, approximately 152,000 SF. The scope also includes extensive reworking of underground utilities (gas, water, sanitary, storm, steam, irrigation, tunnels, IT, electrical) on the west site while maintaining service to adjacent buildings. Beginning in summer 2015, the east site, where the new Greek housing will be constructed, will receive site work and building demolition in preparation for the new buildings. This project is LEED® Gold certified.
PROJECT DETAILS
Elford provided preconstruction and construction services as a Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) for the Goggin Ice Center Hockey Performance Enhancement Addition, a 3,550 SF varsity hockey facility. Renovations include the addition of a multi-zone weight training facility, a shooting room, and guest lounge on the southeast corner of the varsity hockey complex with the potential to include a partial second floor mezzanine over the shooting room and lounge. Also included in the project was the relocation of adjacent dry change lockers and locker room entry to enhance adjacencies and access between the addition and existing hockey facilities along with reworking finishes between spaces to create an integrated team complex at Ice Level.
